Fr. Silviu Nicolae Bunta was born and grew up as a "cradle Orthodox" in Romania, where he also received a B.Div. degree in Orthodox theology (from the University of Sibiu), and an M.A. degree in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament (from the University of Oradea). He and his family moved to the United States in 1999, where Fr. Silviu received his Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament and where for twenty years he was a professor of Scripture and early Judaism, until his retirement from full-time university teaching in December 2022. Fr. Siviu was ordained to the priesthood by Archbp. Alexander (Golitzin) in December 2012 and served as a supply priest in the Bulgarian Diocese of the OCA until his assignment to our parish in January 2023.
His Presvytera Maria is a medical physicist (that is, a nuclear physicist who works in cancer treatment) and their daughter Ana is a doctoral student in clinical psychology.
